Although I've only been blogging since June of this year, I've already come across many exciting style challenges. The most recent challenge was in August run by Catherine, at Not Dressed As Lamb, with many bloggers from around the world taking part. #iwillwearwhatilike. Due to a busy working life I find it difficult to partake in daily style challenges, even those that run for just a month!
But I discovered weekly challenges and one such one was The Wednesday Pants. Each week, Allison of Sydney Fashion Hunter hosted a link party called The Wednesday Pants. Every Wednesday for a whole year she wore a pair of white pants (trousers) and posted how she styled them. I joined the link party each week and managed on 4 occasion to post a white jeans outfit, even though there was no obligation to link a white pants outfit. You can see them here.
Why Coloured Skinny Jeans?
Inspired by Allison, I began to think a weekly challenge was realistic. Although they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I wanted to put my own stamp on a challenge. Besides, wearing white jeans in London, in the middle of winter for example is really not practical! However, knowing how many pairs of coloured skinny jeans I own, I thought I could do a challenge using a coloured pair. Plus, I wear skinnys alot, I mean nearly everyday! My work as a Pilates teacher means I'm free from having to wear formal business attire and I'm frequently dashing around in my beloved skinnys, when I'm not encased in lycra and leggings!
A few weeks ago, I pulled all my skinny jeans from my wardrobe. 10 pairs, all in different colours. Having them all laid out together, I was immediately struck that at least four of them fall vaguely (with abit of artistic licence) in the same colour spectrum - red. I have baby pink, bright red, red ochre and rich maroon. Quick as a flash, I thought that's one for each of the 4 seasons and viòla, The Seasonal Skinny Style Challenge was born.
Part of the reason I started blogging was to get more wear from the existing clothes in my wardrobe. Doing a style challenge using one type of garment - the humble skinny - but in 4 separate colour ways, means I'll be doing just that. Even though pink and maroon are at the opposite ends of the red spectrum, they fit neatly with the concept of a colour representing each season.
The Season of Autumn
The Season of Spring
This is my favourite season. Everything starts to come back to life. Nature starts waking up and bursting forth with all manner of colours. Red is so associated with life and passion and as I adore seeing red tulips coming into bloom in late Spring, my red skinny jeans will fit right in for the months of March, April and May.
The Season of Summer
Follow my year or why not join in?My style challenge may not win any best dressed awards as I'm hardly styling a high fashion garment. Indeed, I've chosen an everyday item because that's just what it is, I do wear them everyday. It will challenge me to get creative with what's in my wardrobe, pushing me out of the rut of always choosing the same favourite pair along with the same favourite top. If it means I dig deeper into my wardrobe and create outfits that I might not initially have thought of, then that will mean success to me. Other styles of jeans maybe taking over from the skinny jean but as an hourglass petite, these really are the best style on me.
You can follow along as I post each week. I'll also be pinning over on pinterest at petitevix. Wish me luck as I start out on my 52 week challenge!
